ABOUT THE ARTIST: Sandy Scott received her formal art training at the Kansas City Art Institute and later worked as an animation background artist for the motion picture industry. She turned her attention to etchings and printmaking in the 1970’s and to sculpture in the 1980’s. Born in Dubuque, Iowa in 1943 and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, she is now headquartered in Lander, Wyoming near the foundry that casts her bronzes and she maintains studios on Lake of the Woods, Ontario, Canada and in the mountains of northern Colorado. Surrounded by mountains, lakes and streams, she is an avid outdoorswoman who loves to hunt and fish. In Canada her friends Dave and Michelle Beaushane who own Nestor Falls Fly-In Outposts frequently fly her and Trish (her long time friend who manages the business end of things) to remote lakes and portages north of Kenora, Ontario. She has made 16 trips to Alaska and has been to Europe, Russia, China and South America to visit the world’s great museums. She believes wildlife artists should be in the field to accurately present their subject to the viewer. Her work is authentic. She has experienced and lived what she depicts.
A licensed pilot for more than thirty years, she feels her knowledge of aerodynamics has been helpful in achieving the illusion of movement in her bird sculpture. The Thomas Gilcrease Museum honored Sandy with a major retrospective exhibition in “Rendezvous ‘98”. Spirit of the Wild Things, a book about Sandy’s work was published the same year.
Congratulations to Sandy for her recent accolades from the Briscoe Western Art Museum, honoring her with the Legacy Award.

She believes wildlife artists should be in the field to accurately present their subject to the viewer. Her work is authentic. She has experienced and lived what she depicts. A lifelong interest in aviation has been invaluable to her work as an artist. A licensed pilot for almost 50 years, she says, “I believe my knowledge of aerodynamics has been helpful in achieving the illusion of movement in my bird sculptures.” Her knowledge of aerodynamics was particularly evident in Mallard Duet, a sold out sculpture that won the Ellen P. Speyer Award at the National Academy of Design in New York. This sculpture is in the permanent collection of Brookgreen Gardens and the National Museum of Wildlife Art. Sandy’s father raised and bred quarter horses and ranched in northeastern Oklahoma which instilled in her a love and knowledge of horses and animals. She has a beautiful Morgan gelding that she used as a model for her powerful truncated equestrian sculpture entitled “Equus Found Fragments” which recently won the Award of Excellence at the Society of Animal Artists Exhibition. When asked what influenced her work most she replies, “First was the time I spent at the Kansas City Art Institute, it opened my eyes to the fundamentals of art and imparted a lifelong interest and love of art history; second was my trip to the north country and Lake of the Woods when I was a kid, it introduced me to what would become a never ending source and inspiration; third has been teaching workshops: teaching is an ongoing discipline – I’ve learned and continue to learn through teaching.” Sandy participates in annual juried exhibitions including those at the Autry National Center, Los Angeles, CA; Prix de West, Oklahoma City, OK; National Sculpture Society, New York, NY; Society of Animal Artists, New York, NY; Gilcrease Rendezvous, Tulsa, OK; Northwest Rendezvous, Helena, MT; Cheyenne Frontier Days Museum Show, Cheyenne, WY; Buffalo Bill Historical Center, Cody, WY; and the National Museum of Wildlife Art, Jackson, WY.

Chapel, 1948-2021, Artist's Statement:
“I was raised on the Western Slope of Colorado, with almost unfettered access to the American wilderness. I currently reside on a sailboat in Oakland, CA with my studio in nearby San Leandro. I work with permanent materials including bronze, steel, stainless steel, aluminum, glass and stone. It is my contention that a work of art must include a complete environment, not just a single object. In my opinion, it is very difficult to convey meaning with either pure abstraction, or pure representation. Describing an abstract concept with another abstraction does not define the subject.
There is nothing in a completely non-objective artwork from the viewers experience upon which to base some meaning. One the other hand, a completely realistic presentation doesn't define an abstraction any better than a dictionary. This is why my sculpture is a blend - the symbolic joining of modern man with primitive experience.
They are in-depth studies of the archetypes and symbols used to communicate their relevance to our everyday lives. Mythology, poetry and art are humanity's attempt to describe the mysteries of life which are beyond our ability to consciously comprehend. This is the appeal of the visual arts, poetry, literature and music; they excite an emotional response, or memory that transcends mere words.” - Ron Chapel...

Ram's Head Contemporary Plaster Sculpture with Green Patina Ancient Rome Style
Located in Firenze, IT
This contemporary plaster sculpture of a ram’s head is inspired by the art of Ancient Rome and Ancient Greece with a reference to Neoclassicism and Neoclassical period old masters, when the discoveries of archaeological sites became the focal point in art history between the 18th and 19th century.
The artist is able to attribute incredible details to this work of art featuring a majestic appearance due to its large curling ridged horns.
This animal figurative work of art is sculpted on the round, the artist took inspiration both from his imagination and archaic reminiscences. He modeled the inert chalk creating an animal with very real facial expression and incredible realistic features with intricate detailed head.
This sculpture is the plaster cast hand modeled by the artist that served him as a reference model to create a bronze sculpture with the lost wax technique, also the bronze version is on sale on my page.
So it represents the first phase of a fascinating and long process of creating sculptural art, a studio piece made as a maquette before a bronze version was cast.
The present aries' head sculpture has been painted to simulate the green patina that archaeological metal sculptures take over the centuries. Two green patina sculptures...
