Eugene Ciceri Figurative Drawings and Watercolors
Étienne Eugène Cicéristudied under his father, a well-respected French illustrator and decorator. Many of his early works were murals and theatre sets influenced by his studies with his father. In Paris, Cicéri shared living quarters with his uncle and fellow artist, Eugene Isabey, in a part of the city where Jean-François Millet, Henri Julien Félix Rousseau and Jules Dupré also lived during the same time. Later in his life, he turned to landscapes and debuted at the Salon in Paris in 1851, winning a bronze medal. Cicéri traveled and painted throughout France, particularly in the small town of Barbizon, and along the Seine and Marne Rivers. Normandy, Switzerland, Germany and North Africa were some of the other locales Cicéri painted during his travels. Cicéri's work is in the Louvre, national museums throughout France, the National Gallery in Berlin and the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles.
