Giuseppe Viviani Landscape Prints

Italian, 1898-1965

Giuseppe Viviani is a popular Italian artist and engraver, famous especially for marine subjects. His figures are characterized by stylized silhouettes, big and sad eyes and bright colors. Viviani's art is marked by a melancholy and decadent vision of life, and at the same time by a great love for life itself. With a linear and essential mark and a refined technical skill, Viviani has moved between a naive popular imagination and the thoughtful search for images of memory, recreating a world veined with deep emotion and traversed by metaphysical openings full of allusions, suggestions and meanings.

War memorial of Viareggio
By Giuseppe Viviani
Located in Roma, IT
"War memorial of Viareggio" is a beautiful coloured etching realized by Giuseppe Viviani in 1956. In the center of the scene, there is a sculpture with some figures and the writing "Aipovericaduti Viareggio MCMXXVII" on the basement of the monument. On the background, there are some coloured buildings; in the foreground, some big coloured stylized flowers and some trees with a camouflage decoration. The plate is hand-signed and hand-numbered with pencil on the lower left margin, edition of 200 prints. The work presents some moisture spots. Giuseppe Viviani (1898) is a popular Italian artist and engraver born in Tuscany; the typical characteristic of his work is a linear, simple and essential sign with the presence of bright colours and a predilection of popular theme and seaside life and culture. Kent Hagerman, (US Air Force Fairchild C-119, the 'Flying Boxcar')

While this is probably a military airport, Kent Hagerman still shows it at its futuristic best. Hagerman was an amazing draftsman who managed to get fantastic detail into his work. This is really a portrait of a plane -- the Fairchild C-119. The words 'United States Air Force' on the side of the plane date it to 1947 or later, after the Air Force split from the Army. The design featured the 'twin boom' clearly showing in this etching. Thanks to this feature it was called the Flying Boxcar. About 1100 were built and used until 1955. It was also used by the Chinese Air...
