Horace Mann Livens Landscape Drawings and Watercolors
A talented British impressionist, Horace Mann Livens is perhaps most famous for having painted the first known portrait of his friend Van Gogh, whom he had met when he was studying at the Academy in Antwerp during 1885–1986. They remained in touch thereafter. Livens deserves to be much better known than he is, the main reason behind him not being as well known is the destruction of much of his work, firstly in the blitz and secondly in 1957 at his widow's home.
