Jacques Hurtubise Prints and Multiples
Jacques Hurtubise was a pivotal figure in the post-Riopelle generation of artists in Quebec. Hurtubise studied at the École des beaux-arts de Montréal and after graduation had an eight-month séjour in New York City. It was 1960 or 1961, where the influence of the Abstract Expressionists, especially DeKooning, made a huge impact on his aesthetic and process. Upon his return to Quebec, at the young age of 21, he was feted with a solo exhibition at the Montreal Museum of Arts. During the 60s, Hurtubise achieved significant awards and accolades. His success can be attributed to the fact that his creations alluded conforming to any of the expectations of the emerging aesthetic genres of the 1960s.
