Sailing into the Sun is an abstract landscape painting. It is oil on canvas. It is gallery wrapped so there is no need for a frame. On a summer morning in 1993 a 22 years old young came to Florida from a small old town in the central area of Cuba called Santa Clara. In his bag, he brought no more than two valuable things, his worn-out brushes and a great dream. The dream to one day become a professional artist in this new land that welcomed him with open arms. Captivated by his love for the beauty of the Landscapes, his last works are what he sees even in the most common scenes: the close relationship of life and who we are with the natural world around us that asks us to respect and care for it. Artist Statement: " I like to scrutinize in the simple things, sometimes it is there where the lost painting is waiting to be found by the painter's eyes. The landscape painting gives me the opportunity to establish a close relationship with the natural world and humbly capture on a canvas a little of its beauty listening to its voice that reminds us how valuable we are and how much we should love it". "Summers View" is an oil painting of the Australian landscape. Painted with a palette knife, the paint is laid on thick. See images and video for details. Emily Persson is a Melbourne based artist who has been creating oil paintings with a palette knife for three years. Emily is a multi-generational artist with roots in Brisbane, Australia. Although an avid hobbyist painter her whole life, Emily found her style and her new career in 2016 when she began painting landscape, seascape and floral still-life paintings inspired by her surrounds in Queensland. Emily decided in late 2017 that she would give away a successful corporate office job and pursue her life long dream of becoming a full time artist. She relocated to South Yarra in Melbourne and immediately began exhibiting across Australia at galleries such as the Moree Gallery and Satch & Co. Original Period Newcomb Macklin Frame George William Sotter (1879 - 1953) Born in Pittsburgh on September 25, 1879, Sotter began his art education with local teachers and with Henry G. Keller, who had studied in various German academies. Keller, known for his superb, atmospheric watercolors, taught at the Cleveland School of Art but Sotter studied with him in Pittsburgh. Later Sotter would exhibit between 1903 and 1937 at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. His works were also shown at the Corcoran Gallery (1912-23), the Carnegie International (1901-26), the National Academy of Design (1913 and 1921), and at the Art Institute of Chicago (1911-27). In 1915, Sotter exhibited four works at the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco, where he won a silver medal. Sotter was known mainly as a stained-glass artist; his work may be seen from New York City to Salt Lake City. Around a dozen craftsmen worked under him for these commissions. Sotter spent the summer of 1902 with Pennsylvania impressionist Edward Redfield in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. Between 1910 and 1919, Sotter taught at the Carnegie Institute of Technology. His paintings often feature large areas of sky filled with clouds and he frequently painted winter night scenes, such as Moonlight, Bucks County (Beacon Hill Fine Art), a perfectly successful depiction of a quiet, moonlit landscape filled with twinkling stars.
