John Kenny Color Photography
British, b. 1975
Over the last decade John Kenny has travelled to some of the remotest corners of sub-Saharan Africa to highlight the pivotal role that traditional communities play in places where the earth’s resources are minimal and under growing threat. His striking portraits emphasize beauty and inherent strength as well as giving us insight into traditional dress and adornment. John has also extended this work to document ethnic groups in India.
His work is exhibited worldwide through art fairs and has been featured in many periodicals and newspapers including interviews in Professional Photographer, Eyes In Magazine, Digital Photographer, Black and White Photography, Tribal Art Magazine, Go Magazine among many more.
John actively supports organisations that work within traditional African communities and from this he has been a guest speaker on BBC Radio 4 and at the London International Documentary Festival. John regularly donates works in support of charities such as Survival international and Concern Worldwide.to

This image is of a young refugee boy on the shores of Lesvos clutching a (k)hamsa made with life jacket swatches and emergency blankets from the island, the painting was created by tracing the hand of a refugee child and drawing their eyes inside of it.
The human condition is the driving motivation behind my work, it’s triumphs, failures, and banality are inexhaustible source material. Using community as a platform for creation, the work is a collaboration with the subjects - as models, fixers, craftsmen, historians, designers - the people who are being described are those who guide the visual narrative. Together, we make work.
Aubrey Roemer was born in Rochester, NY. She received her BFA from Pratt Institute and post collegiately attended residencies in the USA, Europe, and Asia, as well as exhibited in galleries and museums both nationally and internationally. She worked as a journalist for Art Observed, specializing in covering the NYC auction season. Roemer has received grants from World Connect and ARTwerk for her work. She has received national and international press for her work, while actively speaking about the role of art and activism, notably with Artshape Mammoth, the Tällberg Foundation, and at the Parrish Museum of Art. Recently, she was a resident at Vermont Studio Center, at 42 Acres in England, and in Taiwan at Kio-a-Thau Sugar Refinery Artist Village. Roemer is working on projects in Nicaragua with La Isla Foundation addressing the CKDnT epidemic among sugarcane workers...
