Katie VanVliet (she/her) is a sculptor and printmaker practicing from her home studio in Elkins Park and at BYO Print in Philadelphia. She studied fine arts at Moore College of Art & Design before co-founding BYO Print in 2010; BYO Print is a collective studio for emerging and established independent printmakers. She was a resident at Vermont Studio Center in 2017 and the 2018-2019 printmaker in residence at Cheltenham Arts Cener. She occasionally teaches workshops about using reclaimed objects in an art practice, and teaches non-toxic printmaking at Cheltenham Arts Center.to

Bio // Katie VanVliet is a sculptor and printmaker based in Philadelphia, PA. Found and collected objects are the main component of her work, as the drawn components of her prints and the physical components of her sculptures and installations. After studying at Moore College of Art & Design, she founded BYO Print as a collective studio with the mission to keep artists printing on their own time, within a reasonable budget. More than 30 printmakers have been involved with the shop over the years, with 15 current members. She studied with Shelley Thorstensen at Moore as well as at Printmakers' Open Forum in Oxford, PA. She occasionally teaches workshops about about using reclaimed objects effectively in an art practice.
In her studio, she is interested in engaging her audience in narrative. Like many artists, she has always been a collector of things. Aside from unique curiosities, she collects leftovers of routines and rituals, and incorporates them into ongoing bodies of work, most notably, the pill project. Jean Harney (American, 20th Century) is an artist and illustrator from Ulen, Minnesota. Harney graduated from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Wash., with a major in Education and a minor in Art. After graduation, she moved to Arizona to take a teaching position. Since that time, she has taken art classes in Arizona at A.S.U., Scottsdale Community College, and privately. In the beginning, she painted in oils on canvas or masonite, then taking an interest in screen printing. Several years later she discovered acrylic paints and loved the quick drying properties of them. Eventually, she switched from painting in acrylics on canvas to painting on paper and gradually worked into painting in watercolor, which is now her medium of choice. Harney founded the Garden Art Show in 1965, which has been running yearly since that time.
