Léopold Eugène Kampf Figurative Sculptures
French, 1822-1893
Léopold Eugène Kampf was a French sculptor who was born in 1822. He attended military school at Saint-Cyr and entered the army as an officer in the early 1840s. He held the rank of Lieutenant and Colonel and saw action in several campaigns. He used his experience of military life to create realistic and highly detailed sculptures of military figures. Kampf exhibited at the Paris Salon and many of his works were made at the Alfred Daubrée foundry. He produced a bronze bust for the tomb of Affry de la Monnaye which can be found at Père Lachaise Cemetery. Another example of Kampf's work can be found at the Museum of Decorative Arts, Paris.
