Mary Burke Abstract Paintings
Mary Burke was a graduate of the graphic arts department of Stanford University and also studied arts and crafts in Berkeley under Hamilton Achille Wolfe and at the San Francisco School of Fine Arts and Colorado College. She was a member of the Santa Cruz County Artists Co-op, which currently conducts Sunday shows at the Felton Covered Bridge. Mary was born on the Lower East Side of New York City in 1916, one of eight children of Louis and Ada Weitz, and she graduated from Seward High School. She married Paul Burke in 1943, and subsequently moved to Ardsley in Westchester County, New York, where she raised her children Bob and Lorraine. Mary had a distinguished career as an assistant to the superintendent of schools of Edgemont School District. She was a gifted watercolor artist and won many awards for her floral and landscape paintings. Mary was a signature member of the Society of Western Artists and a member of many local artist societies.
