Natalia Dumitresco Abstract Prints
French, 1915-1997
After studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bucharest, she arrived in Paris in 1947 with her husband, Alexandre Istrati, also a painter. They were welcomed by their compatriot, the sculptor Constantin Brâncuși, who hosted them in a studio next to his, impasse Ronsin in the 15th arrondissement. Their friendship will last until the end and Brâncuși will appoint the couple as executors.
Dumitresco received numerous awards, including the Kandinsky Prize in 1955.
She shares a grave in the Montparnasse cemetery with Constantin Brâncuși and Alexandre Istrati.to

Biography:
Robert Motherwell was born January 24, 1915, in Aberdeen, Washington. He was awarded a fellowship to the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles at age 11, and in 1932 studied painting briefly at the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco. Motherwell received a B.A. from Stanford University in 1937 and enrolled for graduate work later that year in the Department of Philosophy at Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts.
