Nikita Mogilevtsev Landscape Paintings
Russian, b. 1990
Nikita Mogilevtsev, born and raised in a very artistic family in St Petersburg has a special style of his own. With his mother and father both as prominent artists, it was almost impossible for him to follow in his footsteps.
Nikita Mogilevtsev studied at the renowned Imperial Academy of Arts in Saint Petersburg. After his studies, he was given an "internal place" at the academy because of his special paintings. That means that he started teaching and also got a studio where he could work freely under the direction of artist / professor at the Academy Vladimir Pesikov. This was a great start for him as an artist. Now, since 2016, he is a teacher at this academy.
His paintings were exhibited in beautiful places in Russia (St Petersburg / Moscow) but also quickly found their way to an exclusive gallery in China. While studying at the Imperial Academy, gallery owner David van der Linden met Nikita during one of the many guided tours of the Hermitage. Nikita spoke enthusiastically about Rembrandt's use of color, but also about Monet's use of color. He indicated that he had learned a lot from this. Incidentally, examples for the Russian artist can be found in Dutch and Belgian art history anyway.
As he himself says:
I loved Dutch masters such as van Eyck, Pieter Brueghel, Rogier van der Weyden, Bosz for their symbolism. Rembrandt - for light and texture. Impressionists - for color. Andrew Wyeth - for mood in paintings and composition. I think that in my paintings I try to combine everything that I liked in my childhood.to

"Julita Malinowska's paintings belong to those, which once seen - are never forgotten. The open spaces, sometimes cool and bright, at other times heavily saturated with contrasting light, create a landscape in which, like a counterpoint, we come across a figure – sometimes one, perhaps two or more. The synthetic construction of form, clean contours, and strong divisions are elements which at first sight are the defining characteristics of the artist's style. It is impossible to pass one by and remain indifferent to the subdued harmony flooding these spaces which not totally defined. The drawings, however, are somewhat different. Although they contain the same motifs, at times even the same compositions – the value strategems employed by Julita create a sense of foreboding in a world already balancing on the edge. The painterly and graphic form constructed by the artist is itself thought- provoking . The heightened tones, the light which at times goes off the scale and the almost classic contours lead us to look at Malinowska's work through the prism of classicism and the great art theories of the 17th century. Such references are quite rare in the painting of today and beyond – in art. The search for a language allowing the artist to deal with universal issues and fundamental questions in order to understand the sense of not only art, but also life, has not been too popular a phenomenom in art over the last century. The artist has, however, for the last few years quite consciously defined the sphere of her search. It could first be seen in the diploma cycle of paintings, the summary of her years of study. “The role of the painting defined then and the concious selection of formal sources became the starting point for further artistic exploration, which I have been following carefully ever since.”

Wellington, Washington Avalanche of March 1, 1910 - Original Oil Painting
By Eric Edward Esper
Located in Chicago, IL
Also known as the Great Northern Railway disaster and Americas deadliest avalanche. After days of traveling west and passing through the 2.6 mile Cascade Tunnel, the GNR passenger train was trapped by snow at the tiny town of Wellington Washington in the Cascade Mountains. For 6 days the passengers survived on the train while railmen worked dauntlessly through continuous avalanches to clear the tracks ahead towards the next town. Fearful of the snow looming over them on the mountain above, the passengers were assured that they were safest where they were. The weather was severe and eventually an avalanche swept the GNR passenger train and a mail train off the tracks towards the river below, resulting in 96 deaths and 23 surviving injured.
