Raf Verjans Wall-mounted Sculptures
Raf Verjans, after a study period in Maastricht, established himself as an Art Smith in Tongeren. After creating exclusively religious work, he has gradually entered the field of profane art. He is open to continuous innovation and to experiments with various materials, which already attracted the attention of the jury of the Young Belgian Sculpture Prize Camp in 1966. From that year, he also collaborated for a while with the art laboratory ‘Instant Art’ in Maastricht and even with the provo movement. A number of situations and projects were thus created in 1967; in 1970 he designed numerous play objects and expanded this principle on a large scale. His specialism is working with bronze and gold and combining several unexpected materials with them.
