Vintage Witco Tiki King Throne Hand-Carved Highback Chairs in Faux Leopard Fur
By Witco, William Westenhaver / Witco
Located in Chattanooga, TN
Take a walk on the wild side, or maybe just have a seat there with scepter in hand. Each chair has been recovered in high-quality, cruelty free, faux-fur that very much resembles the look and feel of leopard fur. Adorned top to bottom with hand-carved intricate detail. These highly collectible and hard to find thrown chairs were born of the jet-set era. The 1960s was the golden age of air travel and Americans were absolutely fascinated with “Exotica.” Ephemera from exotic tropical lands around South Asia were all the rage and gave birth to an explosion of tiki motifs in popular American culture.
This project was a complete tear-down and rebuild. Every section was unbolted and individually restored. This sinuous, dark cedar has been painstakingly detailed by our in-house restoration team to both preserve the patina and address any imperfections in the wood. Lightly recolored and clear-coated to accentuate and preserve the character. The seats and backs were professionally reupholstered, and the results speak for themselves. We're more than certain these will exceed expectations.
Robert Post Junior and Artist William Westenhaver Created Witco in 1959. The two capitalized on the exotica trend by creating lavishly bold, roughly carved wood furniture and decor. The delightfully dramatic furniture was so beloved during the period that Elvis created an entire “Jungle Room” in his Graceland home featuring Witco furniture! Witco remains a mainstay among collectors today. You can even see original Witco pieces still in use at Graceland, and other iconic tiki venues like Polynesian Gardens, the Hawaiian Inn, and the Aku Tiki Inn all located in Florida.
We have other Witco items available including a pair of these conquistador chairs with arms, Witco cat...

1970s Vintage Mid Century Modern Hand Lounge Chair, in Dark Brown-- One Piece
By Pedro Friedeberg
Located in Madison, WI
Excellent Prop piece, or a Living Room, studio or office POP!
This listing is for the Dark Brown chair. We also have a White chair, sold separately, pictured here.
The RMIC hand chair made its first appearance around the year 1970. The spectacular chair is made of plastic and shaped like a giant hand with its palm turned upward, while the fingers serve as a backrest.
Originally, the hand chair was designed in 1962 by Pedro Friedeberg, a then 24 years old surrealist artist. Friedeberg artistic sensibilities were decisively directed against everything conventional, and he was inspired by the Dadaistic practice of producing anti-art for art's sake.

Pair of WITCO Tiki Swivel Lounge Chairs
By William Westenhaver / Witco
Located in Hanover, MA
Tiki chic pair of barrel back swivel lounge chairs designed by William Westenhaver with tropical inspired carved cedar and textured velvet upholstery.
Chairs have a recessed carved wood square plinth under which is an unseen round swivel platform base, enabling 360 degree rotation.
Very clean examples ready to place.
Westenhaver's WITCO (Western International Trading Co.) literally changed the face of tiki with its Avant Garde carving style. His rough, chunky, loose, abstract shapes stood in stark contrast to the smooth and sleek style that dominated earlier 20th century design. Westenhaver's company, Witco, was founded in Mount Vernon, Washington in 1959 and operated for 20 years. William Westenhaver spent some time carving for hotels and restaurants in Florida; his pieces can still be found at Polynesian Gardens, the Hawaiian Inn, and the Aku Tiki Inn. A Witco fountain provided the logo and souvenir tiki mug...
