The elegant pale yellow Musen-jippo background perfectly highlights a glorious purple clematis on the body of the vase with twining vines and delicate leaves. A large antique Japanese late Meiji era covered Totai enamel on porcelain ginger jar. Circa: late 19th century to early 20th century. The ware is enameled with a polychrome fan shaped medallions with blossoming flowers, and butterflies, surrounded by floral and butterfly wings patterns made in the Cloisonne technique. The cover of the ware is decorated with a polychrome image of a flower surrounded by floral, foliage, and butterfly wings made in the same technique.
