Fashion designer Christian Lacroix established his own couture house in 1975 and launched his first jewellery line in 1989. Césarée was founded in 1980 by designer Laurence Coupelon. Coupelon drew inspiration from Asia, blending natural materials with bronzed or silver metal. This late 1990s statement necklace has a collar made from bronzed metal and features a huge circular wooden pendant. The metal has been hammered to create an organic, freeform textured finish. The pendant hangs from a black bead-covered loop. In front of the circular wooden pendant hangs two S-shaped, bronzed metal forms, stylised with carved details, spirals and fishtail ends. This necklace fastens with a chain at the rear of the neck that is secured with Césarée’s recognisable S-shaped hook clasp and engraved with the brand name. Impressive 1930s Bakelite necklace made up of multicoloured beads in various shades of dark green, mustard, orange, tan, red, brown and black - colours which were given food-related names such as Creamed Corn, Butterscotch, Egg Yolk, and Salmon. Each bead is reminiscent of a chess piece, with rounded lines that very much echo the art deco styles of the era. Originally used for industrial purposes thanks to its ability to withstand heat, moulded Bakelite and its cast cousin, Catalin, made the jump to costume jewellery in the 1920s and had their heyday in the 1930s and 1940s with this necklace being one of the more decadent examples. When worn, the piece makes an impressive statement thanks to its substantial size and colourful appearance. Its generous length makes it possible to slip easily on and off overhead or it can be worn looped over. Truly a rare find which belongs in a serious collection. Condition wise, this is verging on extraordinary given the complexity of the carving and the shear number of individuals beads. We count very close to 250 hand carved beads...

This elegant Christian Dior by Mitchel Maer geometric crystal necklace is rhodium plated, in excellent vintage condition and the gemstones have exceptional clarity. The central circular composition consists of five circles of small facetted prong set stones that are linked together with six crescent shaped links of baguette shaped stones. At on one end, it finishes with a joined, larger baguette cut stone which holds the oval signature cartouche marked 'Christian Dior by Mitchel Maer' to the reverse. On the other end, there is a hook fastening with a safety chain that can be secured to the other side of the necklace. In great vintage condition; all original stones and no issues of any note. It's more of a choker style and we've sold this design a number of times over the years including Kramer marked pieces who were licence to sell Christian Dior costume jewellery...
