Jean-Pierre Latz
Jean-Pierre Latz was one of the handful of truly outstanding cabinetmakers working in Paris in the mid 18th-century. Like several of his peers in the French capital, he was of German origin. His furniture is in a fully developed rococo style, employing boldly sculptural gilt-bronze mounts complementing marquetry motifs of flowers and leafy sprays, in figured tropical veneers like tulipwood, amarante, purpleheart and rosewood, often featuring the distinctive end-grain cuts. He also produced lacquered pieces, most famously the slant-front desk in the collection of Stavros Niarchos...

Stained glass with lead frame and soldering
Height: 8 3/4 inches (22.25 cm)
Unsigned
This is a beautiful small stained glass window showing John the Baptist, created with bright coloured glass and painted details in brown and gold stain.
Here, John is shown holding a lamb, a common attribute given to St John to symbolise his recognition of Jesus as the Son of God. Indeed, when John baptised Jesus in the River Jordan he said 'Behold, the Lamb of God'. His reed cross and camel skin...

Mariko Brown Harkin about her work:
"My fascination with pottery comes from my desire to make art and to produce something that is not only functional but visually appealing. Porcelain allows me stretch and shape the clay in any way I choose and offers a blank canvas for my floral imagery and luscious, rich glazes to blend. The forms I create are tight and precise with a sense of restricted volume. I use bands around the form to constrict specific areas of each piece, while at the same time creating space for the volume and fullness to escape. The bands create registers to frame my drawings and paintings of floral imagery.
The way I combine surface and form is inspired by Ming Dynasty porcelain...

Antique Bronze Dog Portrait of a Cavalier King Charles

Lost wax bronze casting
Circa 1910
5 7/8 x 9 x 3 1/4
A sophisticated bronze casting of a Cavalier King Charles spaniel made in lost wax casting (cire perdue) from the beginning of the 20th century by Valsuani Foundry. This an unusual bronze approached in its aesthetic that’s reminiscent of the work of great animal sculptors of the second half of the 19th century except in this presentation which is more avant-garde for the time with a much looser, more impressionistic execution. The patina is a superb bronze color, brown and slightly greenish, going in places towards a more antique green.
The attitude of the dog is extremely well and sensitively rendered with the placement of material unlike the renderings of a bronze by Barye...
