"Idiot Wind, Sweet Reason", acrylic painting, duality, politics, humanity
Located in Toronto, Ontario
"Idiot Wind, Sweet Reason" is an acrylic painting on canvas measuring 24" high by 36" wide. Again cutting to the quick, Dale Williams posits our best and worst instincts as a duality, and that duality as a confrontation. There's nowhere to hide in any of William's paintings, that's part of the charge coming off his canvases. That's particularly true with this painting – as hideous as these personnages may be in Idiot Wind and Sweet Reason, we recognize their struggle for grace.
Press Release 2018: "Williams acknowledges a large range of influences on his vision: the moral lessons embodied in the works of 17th century engraver Jacques Lagniet, the darkling phantasms and tragic reportage of Goya’s Caprichos and Disasters of War, and the personal mythologizing of the late paintings of Philip Guston. Such works echo throughout Williams social surrealist re-visioning." – George Del Barrio, Vanderbilt Republic, Brooklyn NY
Dale Williams has exhibited in the New York City area for the past 25 years. He is a 2014 recipient of a Fellowship in Printmaking/Drawing/Book Arts from the New York Foundation for the Arts. His most recent one-person show, “America Now Suite,” which re-visioned American history in service of the civic imagination, was held at Gowanus Loft, Brooklyn in October 2018. A selection of portraits from “America Now Suite” was included in the BRIC Biennial, Winter/Spring 2019. His portrait of Osip Mandelstam...

"Solidarity" is an acrylic painting and collage on paper measuring 36" high by 24" wide. It is one of 50 portraits that comprise Profiles in Democracy. Savage in their execution, they are nevertheless heartfelt expressions from the artist – politically, socially, culturally – in some cases featuring text and language in the portrait. In this case, the reference to resistance reads: "Solidarity – (phobia/philia)", and "most Americans not happy customers". The phobia/philia suggests a tension between fear/knowledge or fear/wisdom...
From Dale Williams: "Profiles in Democracy is a group of 50 portraits completed in 2019. They are an expression of sorrow at the fracturing ideals that our country now teeters upon. The portraits are mostly – not exclusively – imaginary: a populace viewed from the inside out, people that someone like our current president might call losers. "CHILDREN OF THE SUN", 2019, is an oil painting on canvas by artist Tslil Tsemet, and measures 47x62". Characteristic of the artist's best work, it features a group of four contemporary strong-man heads of state portrayed in a child's garden of dangerous toys – from plastic ray-guns to nuclear warheads. Impresser
Located in Ibadan, Oyo
"Impresser" is an intriguing artwork that captures the essence of competition, skill, and the desire to impress. This piece of art depicts a man playing snooker with exceptional skill, in the presence of a lady who is watching him intently. The artwork showcases the man's confidence and mastery of the game, as he strives to impress the on-looking lady with his abilities. This work is inspired by the rate of ability Men display to impress a lady they've fallen for. Moses Ndubuzo came to the realization that Men (who don't know much about women) do things with style and often incredible things when a crush is around the corner, just like showing off, but this time it's natural.
The man in the artwork is shown in a moment of intense focus, as he lines up his shot on the snooker table. His body language exudes confidence and skill, and his expression suggests that he is fully immersed in the game. The lady, on the other hand, is shown standing at a distance, watching the man with a curious and fascinated expression. She is dressed in elegant attire, which adds to the ambiance of the scene, and her presence seems to be the focal point of the man's efforts.
This creates a sense of visual interest and draws the viewer's attention toward the lady, who is the center of the man's attention. The lighting in the artwork is also skillfully done, with the snooker table being illuminated, creating a sense of focus on the game.
The artwork's title, "Impresser," is aptly chosen, as it encapsulates the man's desire to impress the lady. This desire is a common human trait, as people often seek to impress others with their skills, talents, and abilities. The man's mastery of the game of snooker is a testament to his dedication and hard work, and his desire to impress the lady reflects the universal desire to be recognized and appreciated for one's achievements.
Overall, "Impresser" is a captivating artwork that speaks to the human experience of competition, skill, and the desire to impress. Its use of colors, lighting, and symbolism creates a sense of visual interest and draws the viewer into the scene. This artwork is a testament to the power of art to capture human emotions and experiences, and its ability to connect people across time and space. Whether one is a snooker player or not, "Impresser" is an artwork that is worth experiencing.
Shipping Procedure
Ships in a well-protected tube from Nigeria
This work is unique, not a print or other type of copy.
Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity (Issued by the Gallery)
Overall, "Far From Home" is a stunning piece of art that speaks to the human experience of longing for a place to call home. Its subtle yet powerful symbolism, combined with its evocative imagery, creates a sense of emotional resonance that is hard to forget. This artwork is a testament to the power of art to convey complex emotions and experiences, and its ability to connect people across time and space. Whether one is far from home or not, "Far From Home" is an artwork that is worth experiencing.

"Ingredients" (2024) By Nadezda, Original Oil Surrealist Portrait Painting
Located in Denver, CO
Nadezda's beautiful new oil on panel painting "Ingredients" (2024) is a surrealist portrait of a young woman, dressed in Russian-inspired clothing and resting curiously during the night beside a plume of mushrooms, among a surreal field of spirits. Behind her, flying away is the spirit of a woman and a cat, and in front float two clay faces among the peonies.
Nadezda is a painter, sculptor, photographer, and concept artist. Her artwork is focused on narratives carefully gathered from the hidden chambers of her imagination as well as live theater-inspired work with actors, dancers, and models. Like a quilt stitched of poetic realities, Nadezda’s mysterious world defies the mundane. With a non-linear creative process flowing between different media, the artist explores various vantage points in her creations. This dynamic approach inspires her mind’s eye to focus on the worlds within and evoke an uninterrupted, creative transmission which is then channeled through her paintings, drawings, sculpture, photography, writing and film.

Raquel. Large format interior with woman portrait and still-life
By Alfredo Roldan
Located in Segovia, ES
"Raquel" is an interior scene of a young woman, stretched out comfortably on a sofa, surrounded by flowers and fruit. She gazes placidly at the artist, who is portraying her dressed in a nightgown and a colorful dressing gown.
Oil on canvas. 2003
Measurements: 90 x 200 cm / 35,43 x 78,74"
The rich range of colors used and the relaxed gesture of the model envelop the atmosphere of comfort that prevails in the works of this author because, according to his words: “When I use a model I want her to be very comfortable, rested, calm and relaxed. I am not interested in movement in my work, as it always ends up too artificial for my taste and would interfere with the ambiance I am trying to create”.
The flattened perspectives, the fractured surfaces, and the graphic stylizations refer to the cubism of Picasso and Juan Gris. There are echoes of Modigliani in the treatment of his female models and we can detect an homage to Gauguin and Matisse, in his playful and sensual manipulation of color.
In 2003 Ediciones Sammer publishes in a deluxe edition the book Alfredo Roldán written by the sculptor David Gamella where a large part of his work is reproduced. This painting, Raquel, is reproduced on the cover of the book and also inside on a double page (294-295).
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Alfredo Roldán (Madrid- Spain, 1965) is a self-taught artist who, at the age of 22, began selling his works at street markets. In 1994 he won the award granted by the City Council of Madrid with the painting “El Baño Azul”, which now hangs in The Museum of Modern Art of Madrid. That year he began to work with the renowned British dealer...
