Fuller studied art at Clapham School of Art and the Royal Academy Schools, then began his notable career as a teacher of painting and drawing at St John’s Wood Art Schools 1922–32. From 1927–37 was assistant art master at Dulwich College, where he had been educated. In 1938 Fuller moved to St Ives, Cornwall, where he founded the St Ives School of Painting, which he ran until he died. Although Fuller was a painter of a traditional kind, he was open to new ideas, advocating a more tolerant approach to modern art in 1953 in St Ives, four years after the founding of the Penwith Society of Arts, of which he was elected chairman. DETAIL: Painter, stained glass artist and illustrator, born in Cowbridge, Glamorgan. Was married in 1906 to the artist Gertrude Alice Meredith Williams, who died in 1934. He studied at Slade School of Fine Art and in Italy and France. During World War I he served in the Army in France and completed work based on his Somme front experiences. Work by Williams and his wife is at the Scottish National War Museum in Edinburgh. He painted widely in France and showed in Liverpool and elsewhere, sometimes signing as M M Williams.

DETAIL: A most interesting unuusal and characterful mid Century portrait of a man mowing the lawn. The painting initialled lower right for Kenwrothy. John Dalzell Kenworthy ARCA (5 Nov 1858 - 4 Mar 1954) was an internationally acclaimed artist, sculptor and writer who was born at Whitehaven into a prominent West Cumbrian family. JD Kenworthy was a noted Cumberland artist, who lived at Seacroft House, St Bees, a coastal village south of Whitehaven. He painted both portraits and landscapes, in oil and watercolour in the 50 years centred on the turn of the twentieth century. He was an associate of the Royal Cambrian Academy (1914) and he exhibited at the Royal Academy in London, as well as at galleries across Manchester, Leeds and Liverpool. He travelled to paint in Scotland and France, where he became particularly well known. He also was a keen angler, and wrote a book in 1933 called 'Fisherman's Philosophy', in which he discusses Scottish salmon and loch trout, and fishing on the French Mediterranean coast. Kenworthy's works are held in the public collections of the Beacon Museum and Helena Thompson Museum. JD Kenworthy's portraits include two of 1st World War veterans, AJ Wandless a Master Mariner and Whitehaven war hero Abraham Acton. He also painted portraits of other notable people, including the Mayor of Whitehaven, Reverend Rees Keene, Dr James Irving Lace,[6] Justices of the Peace James Gibson Dees and Alderman Joseph Braithwaite and one of the aero chocolate...

DETAIL: Painter and teacher, born in London. After Bryanston School he studied at Goldsmiths’ College School of Art with James Bateman and Clive Gardiner, 1937–9, then at the Byam Shaw School of Drawing and Painting, 1939–40, with Ernest Jackson, and drawing at La Grande Chaumière, Paris. During World War II he served in Royal Engineers before transferring to the Camouflage Unit, which included Frederick Gore, Oliver Messel, Roland Penrose and Claude Rogers. Roddon spent part of the war stationed in the Old Assembly Rooms, Norwich, as a camouflage instructor alongside Messel and Penrose. From 1948–50, he taught at Goldsmiths’; from 1960–1 was commissioned to paint The Stations of the Cross and Resurrrection for St Thomas More, Patcham; from 1960–3 moved to Paris; rented Edwin John’s studio in Tite Street for 10 years; and began a series of portraits, sitters including the novelist L P Hartley, composer John Ireland...
