Rare 1930s French Wicker Rattan Emmanuelle Peacock Chair
Located in Birmingham, AL
A large, classic 1930s Peacock chair handcrafted in France of woven two-toned rattan and wicker. Having a flamboyant shaped high flaring back that resembles the fanned feathers of the bird after which it's named, this rare chair features large rolled arms and an hourglass shaped base. A stunning piece of furniture with a rich history, its design and craftsmanship reflect the elegance and sophistication of its era. Designed to make a statement both structurally and aesthetically, Peacock chairs are considered pieces of art as well as chairs. In fine original condition with a beautifully aged original rich surface color patina, this chair is part of a set that includes the chair and a very rare Peacock rocker, probably custom made in the South of France. Each piece is sold separately. The iconic Peacock chair has a fascinating history and cultural significance. Gaining popularity in the 1920s, it became a "must have piece" with everyone from government officials to celebrities. Its association with Hollywood and the entertainment industry further elevated its status, as seen in its prominent appearances in films and TV series. 20th Century Spanish Catalan Black Clay Botijo or Water Jug from Verdu, Signed
Located in Birmingham, AL
An early 20th century barro negro or black clay botijo, hand made and signed ROCA CAUS VERDU on the handle, by the famed pottery company, Roca Caus, in the village of Verdú in the Catalan region of Spain, circa 1900. This beautiful utilitarian pot, with its wide belly, top handle, and one mouth where it's filled and one mouth called a pitón or pitorro to drink from, is a traditional porous clay Spanish vessel originally designed to contain water. The botijo is a typical element of Spanish culture and can be found in nearly every rural town and varies in shape, color, and material depending on the area. The Verdú jugs are known for their ability to keep water cool and very fresh because of their porosity. The expression "they always cry" is well known. Today, this antique clay jug can be used as a vase, stand alone conversation piece, or grouped with other pieces of blackware on a table, shelf or kitchen counter. Beautifully decorative, it will be a wonderful addition to any collection. Each piece is a unique work of art, and its dusky matte patina only adds to its overall character and charm. Additional black clay pottery...

Located in Birmingham, AL
A beautiful 19th century French handblown green glass demijohn or Dame Jeanne bottle, circa 1880s, having a bulbous shape and brightly colored green glass with visible bubbles and no seams, an indication that it was hand blown rather than made with a mold. Please contact us for sizes and pics of other bottles. This listing is for the one bottle.
