The adjustable shade offers personalized lighting controlling the light. Rare hard to find vintage 1960s incised stoneware pottery table lamp designed by ceramicist husband and wife duo Jane and Gordon Martz of Marshall Studios, in Veedersburg, Indiana. The incised motif was first issued in catalog 16 from the 60s. This distinct design was publicized in the Marshall Studios 1974 Catalog No.35. The stoneware is rendered in deep gold, with a tan abstract incised motif. The base is slip-cast and then dipped into glaze. Signed “Martz” on the lower backside. The Carrera marble base has very slight, barely noticeable yellowing. Telescoping arm shows signs of light oxidation, but operates well. The polished and coated/sealed aluminum shade shows light scuffs and scratches. Wiring is original. Lamp works as it should. In very good shape for being ~70 years old.
This lamp is not signed. I'm guessing the manufacturer's sticker label dried out and fell off. Typically, the labels were adhered to the ceramic bulb socket, which would heat up and dry out the glue. Also notice the small hole perforated diffuser, on which the polished aluminum shade rests and pivots, is unusual. Many lamps have the larger holes found on the more recently made examples.
