Breath in Between - Figurative contemporary collage of torn photograph on paper
By Keun Young Park
Located in New York, NY
Keun Young Park depicts the body in a state of transformation. Her works on paper show floating figures, faces, draped arms and cupped hands, which appear to be disintegrating and reforming at once. The artist begins her process with original photographs keyed to various evocative hues. The images are shredded by hand into thousands of tiny pieces that are then reassembled. Between the pasted pieces are thin, white, vein-like lines that reveal the texture of the paper's edge. Park's practice has a relationship to the precision of Pointillism, the uniformity of Benday dots and the repetition of digital pixilation but her works retain a tactile, hand-made quality through the irregularly shaped elements from which they are formed. "I intend to reflect upon the a-static character of existence in the flow of time…I attempt to capture the tremor of unstable presence," writes Park. Each work vibrates with a quiet energy, conjuring up thoughts of both the beginning of life and its end. This sense of disembodiment is balanced with a fullness of form and physicality that is derived from the artist's earlier practice as a sculptor. ------------ "In my work, I reflect upon the ecstatic character of existence in the flow of time as well as the opposite sides of nature – negative and positive, construction and destruction, presence and absence, and life and death. I believe that everything is constantly changing, either being generated or destroyed. Presence is just a state of being and the reality of an object has ambiguity in this shifting. In my recent work, the micro-collage or paper mosaic, I capture the tremor of unstable presence. I take pictures of parts of the body or face, change the color and saturation of those images by Photoshop and print them out on paper. Then, I tear the pictures and paste them back together piece-by-piece. Through this process of breaking down photo images and recomposing them, figures have thousands of tiny particles and textures that make the images look blurry and tremulous." Bio Keun Young Park was born in 1977 and educated in Seoul, South Korea. She received BFA and MFA Degree in Sculpture at Seoul National University. Since 2005, Keun Young has lived and worked in New York and New Jersey. She was selected as an A.I.R. Gallery Fellowship Recipient, a winner of Curator’s Choice, a competition of ATOA, ‘Artist Talk on Art’ organization and she received Juror’s award at ‘Small Works’, international competition of NYU gallery. Keun Young had numerous solo and group exhibitions at galleries and art fairs in the United States, Europe and Asia. Item Description: Keun Young Park Breath in...

"Sista Annie Mae" Hand crafted paper collage of abstracted female figure
By Shawn Theodore
Located in Philadelphia, PA
"Sista Annie Mae" is an original piece by Shawn Theodore made from hand-crafted paper collage and acrylic and archival ink on Epson Hot Press Natural paper on wood panel. Theodore delves into the specific experiences of African American families, capturing a longing for lost photographs, missing heirlooms, and vanished archives. Using a blend of traditional portraiture, found photographs, paint, paper, pencils, and digital manipulation, Theodore creates archetypes representing hypothetical family members, spiritual guardians, and ancestors. These boldly crafted archetypes inhabit an imagined macro-family album, offering a unique perspective on portraiture, connection, and community. Theodore's work aims to deepen spiritual connections and encourage personal introspection. This piece measures 36”h x 48”w and comes with a gallery-issues Certificate of Authenticity. Shawn Theodore (b. 1970) was born in Germany to American parents from Philadelphia, and currently lives and works in Philadelphia. Theodore was awarded the prestigious PDN’s 30 New & Emerging Photographers to Watch (2019), the Getty Images / ARRAY ‘Where We Stand’ grant, and a grant from the Knight Foundation for ‘A Dream Deferred’. Theodore was a two-time nominee for the Pew Center for Arts & Heritage Fellowship and a nominee for the Magnum Foundation Fund. He is an Associate Adjunct Professor at the University of the Arts, a trustee of The Print Center, a trustee of the Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation, and a former trustee of the Philadelphia Photo Arts Center. Theodore was announced as a two-time nominee of The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage Fellowship and a nominee of the Magnum Foundation Fund in 2018. In the following years 2019 and 2020, he was awarded the PDN's 30 New & Emerging Photographers to Watch and AI-AP American Photography 35. He has had several solo exhibitions and is included in several group exhibitions. Dear One Threads A Cocoon - Unique Hand-coloured Print in Walnut frame
Located in London, GB
Hand-coloured portrait of a human larvae bursting out of their cocoon, immobilised in marble. Representative of a safe and isolating space, the cocoon is both a cage and a shelter. This tale is a study of transformation, of breaking apart and coming back together as the larvae emerges from the silken threads. Taken from The Sialia Marbles, a series of portraits containing ephemeral human sculptures taken between 2016-19. Together these works act as tales contained in a fictional sculpture hall, in direct reaction to Andre Malraux’s 1947 Le Musee Imaginaire (Museum Without Walls). During the beginning of the 'Museum Age' in the 18th century , writer Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe discussed mythical sculpture...
