Antique Pomegranate Tree Samarkand Carpet, c. 1920s
Located in Chicago, IL
One of the most remote locations in Asia, the area known as East Turkestan was a pivotal stop along the Silk Road, uniting the cultures of India, Persia, and China. This rich multicultural mix is reflected in the exquisite carpets created in the region, which combine Turkoman designs with Islamic motifs and Chinese color palettes. For centuries, nomadic weavers from all across East Turkestan have travelled to the oasis towns of Samarkand, Kashgar, and Khotan to sell their woven wares.
Dated to the early 20th century, this beautifully knotted Samarkand carpet is patterned with a traditional design of branching red pomegranate trees...

Vintage Samarkand suzani, Uzbekistan
Tashkent suzani from Samarkand Uzbekistan, 1950.
Overall condition is pretty good for its age and use.
"Suzani" means needlework and these embroideries are some of the most characteristic forms of textile art from Central Asia. The mastery of color and the dynamic sense of movement they convey continue to add depth and joy to contemporary interiors. A high level of creative variation and the individuation of each flower are what make each piece unique.
Measures: 52" x 51.
The Silk Road Bukhara: Like scattered pearls along the vast expanse of the Great Silk Road, the cities of Uzbekistan glisten radiantly under the unforgiving sun. This nation, nestled in a picturesque oasis, holds a treasure trove of historical artifacts, owing to its advantageous position at the heart of the ancient Silk Road network. In the year 138 BC, a transformative era commenced as China graciously opened its borders to trade, giving rise to caravans that embarked upon this illustrious route. These trading pathways served as conduits not only for the exchange of goods and craftsmanship but also for the intermingling of cultures, beliefs, and wisdom. Even today, within the ancient walls of cities like Samarkand, one can still discern the echoes of bustling voices, the melodious jingle of camel...

Handmade Kilim Rugs, Antique Wool Jajim, Striped Red Cream Wool Textile
Located in Wembley, GB
A practical variation on the flat-weave Kilim, this Caucasian coverlet, or jajim, features a bold, inherently versatile pattern of multi-width stripes perfectly suited for Mid-Century Modern interiors. Ochre and umber stripes with narrow outlines decorate the fiery cinnabar ground while creating a stylish and sophisticated pattern yet totally understated. These graphic stripes, which would be equally at home in a western design repertoire, still manage to retain their rustic sensibilities. Hidden variations give the seemingly balanced stripes an inconspicuous asymmetric repeat. Pinstripe accents in neutral hues of white and walnut brown emphasise the boldly banded stripes and offset the high-chroma ground. Like many of the most sought-after tribal textiles, this Caucasian Jajim has natural modernity and a Minimalist aesthetic imbued with ethnographic qualities that enliven modern interiors. This piece is in great condition, ready for use in any home interior.
