Born in Riga, Edgars Vinters was the only child of the facade and decoration painter Hermanis Vinters (1874–1939) and his wife Anna, née Kalniņa, (1879–1953). As a ten-year-old boy he met with the popular pastelist Voldemārs Irbe, who detected the boy’s talent, taught him the basics of pastel painting and opened his eyes to the beauty of nature in its so-called minor details. From 1935 on, he wrote small articles for children's and youth magazines, which he illustrated with pen and ink drawings and linocuts.[2] With the money he made, he contributed to the school fee for the commercial college he attended until 1940, after a change of school.
Resulting from contact he made with the painter Hugo Kārlis Grotuss, from 1937 Vinters changed his painting style. Grotuss encouraged him to give up ‘the dark phase’ he was in through Irbe, to use brighter primers and to show more briskness and colours in his paintings. A porcelain factory engaged him to paint a series of porcelain plates
for president Kārlis Ulmanis.
After he had taken his high-school-diploma, he joined the Latvian Art Academy and until 1944 studied under the professors Jānis Kuga, Leo Svemps, Jānis Cielavs, Valdemārs Tone, Jānis Annuss, Kārlis Miesnieks und Vilhelms Purvītis. In 1944, Vinters had to drop out of his studies; he was drafted for the service in the Latvian Legion and deployed near Toruń on the Vistula River. First of the Morning Light oil on canvas,64x78 I love the gentle light falling on the model from a very beautiful window. Born in 1952, Kuhfeld studied at Leicester School of Art between 1972 and 1976. In 1978 he secured a place at the Royal Academy School of Art. During this time he also studied under the painter Peter Greenham CBE, RA.
While at the Royal Academy Schools Kuhfeld won various notable scholarships and prizes: 1978-79 David Murray Landscape Prize; 1979 Royal Academy of Art Silver Medal for Drawing, Royal College of Surgeons Dooley Prize for Anatomical Drawing; 1980 Elizabeth Greenshield Foundation Scholarship and Richard Ford Scholarship for study in Spain.
In 1985 the New Grafton Gallery in London gave Kuhfeld his first major exhibition, with the painter Christa Ga, which helped establish him as one of the up-and-coming members of the New English Art movement. In 1986 Kuhfeld was elected to membership of the New English Art Club. In 1992 he became an elected member of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters.

Peter Kuhfeld
Born in Cheltenham, Peter is the only child of a German prisoner of war and an English classical pianist. He studied at Leicester School of Art between 1972-76 and on graduation worked for two years giving lessons in drawing and painting at Rugby School of Art before securing a place at the Royal Academy Schools. There he studied under Peter Greenham CBE RA from 1977 to 80. While at the Royal Academy Schools Peter won various scholarships and prizes, notably the David Murray Landscape Prize, the Royal Academy of Art Silver Medal for Drawing, the Royal College of Surgeons Dooley Prize for Anatomical Drawing, the Elizabeth Greenshield Foundation Scholarship and Richard Ford Scholarship for study in Spain. He has enjoyed a successful career exhibiting around the world and often appears in the ING Discerning Eye selection. His drawings are held in the Royal Collection and in 2012, he was commissioned by HRH The Prince of Wales to paint the royal wedding of TRH the Duke & Duchess of Cambridge.
