There are a few different theories as to where the term carver chair originates, but we rather like the simple one of a carver chair always being at the head and foot of the table and therefore occupied by the carver of the meat. Whichever way you look at it carver chairs are normally bolder, slightly larger and generally just more impressive than a normal dining chair. Of course these days carver chairs can be used be used in many places around the home, as desk chairs, bedroom chairs or even spare hall chairs, as opposed to just being used around the dining table.
