About the Item

Circa 1900 India A striking wooden block-printed scarf from Sanganer in Rajasthan, northern India, made according to centuries-old tradition. Printed on cotton voile using a two-color wooden block in soot brown and madder red, with a solid field of small flowers in the center. Borders decorated with boteh motifs on all four sides, showing the rustic marks of the wooden blocks. This type of Sanganer shawl was imported into France in the 19th century to be worn with regional costumes. Hand-rolled edges on all four sides. No flaws. Very good condition in terms of color and preservation. Dimensions: 90 cm x 85 cm
