About the Item

Another example of the Edwardians’ love of contradiction, this blouse covers every square inch of the torso but does so with transparent filet lace, which reveals almost as much as it conceals. We love how the cropped length and elastic waist create a billowy, poet’s blouse effect that balances the masculinity of the sailor collar. Long sleeve blouse with scalloped filet lace sailor collar and square neckline inset with matching filet lace center panel; multiple lengthwise pintucks around the remaining circumference of garment. Filet lace trim at dropped shoulder seams, armscyes and cuffs, plus six knotted ornamental buttons at center chest and two at each wrist; elastic waistband. Hidden snap closure and bottom hook and eye down left side of lace chest panel; unlined. fabric: cotton lawn, filet lace noteworthy: dry clean only alterations: re¬placed elastic at waistband condition: very good with three pinprick holes and one faint mark in back (see photos) measurements: collar: 3 ¼” at widest neckline drop: 3 ½” from shoulder drop shoulders: 17” sleeve: 23” from shoulder, 17 ½” from underarm (including 3 ½” cuff) sleeve circumference: 12 ½” at upper arm, 7 ½” at wrist bust: 44” waist: 32” unstretched – 40” fully stretched length: 15” from shoulder, 10” from underarm label: no label present size: no size tag present; comparable to modern size medium due to arm circumference and length
