About the Item

This charming original 1920s silk chiffon floral print dress is delicate, feminine and in excellent antique condition. The pale yellow chiffon hosts a subtle abstract floral design in deep rose pink and lilac blues and has an air of understated modernity. The dress features a shallow scoop neck and a panelled triangulated neckline with a second layer overlaid and edged in a deep flounce which resembles an overlaid shawl. A light flyaway skirt flares out beneath a low horizontal panelled band which sits on the hips. The cuffs are roll-edged and finished with popper fastenings. As this piece is unlined, we recommend it be worn with a slip. Could be worn by a range of sizes up to and including US size 6, UK 10. These chiffon dresses are increasingly difficult to come by in wearable condition and although the condition of this dress is excellent, it is not perfect. There is a small spattering of pin head size holes in a few localised areas all to the rear and the side seams of the dress. These are tiny and would never be seen when worn. The fabric has no tears or stains and is in otherwise very fresh condition. MEASUREMENTS: BUST - 39in. ( 99 cm) WAIST - 38in. (96.5 cm) HIP - 39in. (99 cm) LENGTH - 41in. This pretty dress was designed by Claire Layton in London during the 1960s. It is tailored from manmade white medium weight chiffon woven with sheer flowers in yellow and white. These florals really pop against the white satin lining. Cut to a sleeveless shift-dress style with an elegant peplum waist and floaty knee-length skirt. This dress is fastened with a hidden tonal zip at the rear and a hook-and-eye clasp secures the top at the back of the neck. The original care label reads “This garment may be dry cleaned or hand washed”. Presented in excellent vintage condition, this dress has no flaws of any note. This enchanting 1920s silk chiffon floral print dress is delightfully feminine and in absolutely beautiful condition for a piece of this era. The dress has a scoop neck at both front and reverse , and features cape style sleeves with scalloped edge which float pretty over the upper arms. The peach toned silk chiffon overlay is printed with a floral design in soft blues, reds and ochre. It is fashioned with a dropped waistline atop of a full skirt falling to the ankles in soft folds with an ethereal, bohemian aesthetic. A slip in pale blue silk is sewn into the dress and shows through to complement the delicate shades of the print. Both the slip and the overlay have a run of subtle popper fastenings to the left.
