About the Item

Patio dresses came into fashion from the 1940's through the 1950's and incorporated Native American motifs with the casual style of a day dress for a distinct Western wear vibe. The prominent designers for this look hailed from Arizona and often marketed their pieces to visitors looking for a cool and comfortable way to stay fashionable in the Southwestern heat. This adorable two piece top and skirt features a lightweight off-white cotton embellished with brown, beige and orange rickrack as well as a band of orange, green and black needlework that takes on the appearance of Native American beading. The pullover top zips at the side and the broomstick style skirt hooks, zips and snaps at the waistband. Add a crinoline undergarment to achieve a period perfect look or go for a more modern approach as shown. Either way, you will be an Arizona princess with this charming piece. Designed by Nor Deka of Phoenix Arizona C.1950. CONDITION Both pieces are in good condition though there are some signs of wear and storage to the top. There are some faint brownish discolorations at each shoulder as shown in photographs 12 and 13, and some tiny pin marks at the v-neck (which apparently was a little immodest for the original owner). The pieces have been professionally cleaned. SIZING & MEASUREMENTS The size is not marked though the pieces best fit U.S. sizes 2 - 4 with attention to the following measurements. For visual reference, the mannequin in the photographs is a size 4 and the skirt waistband was too tight and had to be clipped for the photographs.
