About the Item

This midnight blue and white gingham cotton dress was made in the USA in the late 1950s to 1960s by an unknown designer. A desirable shirtwaister style which falls to just below the knee, it is full-skirted and pleated, typical hallmarks of dresses which straddled these two decades. It has short-sleeves and a nipped-in waist. It has a rounded neckline, thoughtfully edged with black trim. The front of the dress fastens with five black plastic buttons, each with a large glistening central rhinestone. Either side of the buttons, the dress is detailed with black appliqué leaves with embroidered red edges. It has a matching belt made from the same gingham fabric which threads through belt loops at the sides of the dress. The skirt is softly pleated and kicks out around the wearer as they walk. This dress is unlined. In excellent vintage condition with no flaws; the cotton is fresh looking, clean and ready to wear. Due to its age, it does not have a size or composition label so please check our below measurements carefully. The fabric has no stretch. We estimate a good fit for up to a UK 10-12 or US 6-8 with a smaller waist. MEASUREMENTS BUST - 42 in. (107 cm) WAIST - 30 in. (76 cm) HIP - 54 in. (137 cm) LENGTH - 39 in. (99 cm)

This tunic mini-dress, resplendent in pale blue gingham wool, was designed by Guiborgé for Miss Dior in the 1970s. Aimed at a younger audience than the Christian Dior Boutique collections, it has a playful, ingénue feel. The front of the dress features a large pocket split into two that fastens with two white-topped snap closures. Accessed under the left arm with a white zip. It is fully lined in white satin. The original label reads “Miss Dior” in stylised font. The Miss Dior clothing line was launched in 1967 as a lower priced, ready-to-wear line made to appeal to a more youthful customer. The line was designed by Phillipe Guiborgé. Guiborgé was known for designing the Dior Boutique line and for assisting Marc Bohan in Dior’s couture house. The Miss Dior store...
