About the Item

Preowned, vintage sun dress from Donald Brooks Boutique circa 1972. Made from a cotton blend fabric, this rare vintage dress features a textured seersucker stripe that adds subtle dimension to its flowing silhouette. The color palette is a striking blend of warm corals and sunny yellows, accented with hints of other tones for depth and vibrancy. The bodice is designed with a halter-style front and angled sides that rise to a high neckline, creating a sculptural, flattering fit. It’s cinched at the waist, with the skirt flaring gently outward in an angled cut that adds movement and shape. At the back, slender straps extend from the collar and curve gracefully down to the waist, leaving the back almost entirely open for a bold, breezy look. The long skirt features two high front slits—an iconic design hallmark from this designer—that reveal the legs beautifully as you walk or sit. To complete the look, bands of embroidered, multicolored flowers trim the halter neckline, front bodice, and waist, adding an artisanal finish. And yes—it has slash pockets at the side of each hip! Note that our second to last image shows this dress in an editorial shot by Helmut Newton for Vogue US January 1972. Tagged Donald Brooks Boutique. Unlined. Fastens in back with two hook/eye closures at the collar and a hook/eye closure and zipper at the back. No care or content label, dry clean recommended. Tagged size 8; approximate measurements: bust - 36in, waist - 26.6in, hips - 43in, natural shoulder to hem - 53in; waist to hem - 38in. Preowned/vintage (40+ years old) with some signs of age, use and prior wear: we note some shadow spots on the lower front panel, hard to see when wearing but evident if inspecting closely and under magnification (see last image, circled). About Donald Brooks: Donald Brooks (1928–2005) began his fashion career at Darbury, a budget-friendly sportswear label, before making a major leap in 1959 when he joined Townley Frocks, succeeding the iconic Claire McCardell. In 1964, he struck out on his own, launching his namesake label, and later introduced a boutique line in 1971. Though his business closed in 1973, Brooks remained an influential force in fashion and costume design.

Original Paul-Louis Orrier Haute Couture Silk Dress 70s Ruffle Pleated
By Paul-Louis Orrier
Located in Berlin, BE
This is the most gorgeous dress! It is made of such a beautiful delicate silk fabric and lovely strong saturated colours, the shape is typical 1970s. The construction is so well done and there are so many beautiful handmade details. The upper silk is super soft and pleated, it falls in ruffles. The black undersirt has a strengthened hem to create and maintain the shape. The collar falls in ruffles and the front part closes with little hooks. The buttons are covered with the silk fabric. It has two labels inside, one says Walter Gross Zürich (now called GROSS COUTURE, a distrubutor of Haute Couture fashion) and the other one says Paul-Louis Orrier, the designer. This is such a rare one of a kind Couture dress. It comes with a matching belt. The belt had a velcro fastening, I am very sure this was added afterwards, also it didn't work so I removed it. The belt no only closes if you tie it, I would recommend to maybe add press button for your desired fit. Paul-Louis Orrier is an amazing 20th century French designer whose work can be found in the Mint Museum, NC and in the Texas Fashion...
