About the Item

Circa 1880-1890 France Day dress with integrated Bustle cage, by petite Bourgoisie, bodice and skirt in aubergine/chocolate silk faille, trimmed with chestnut moiré and dating from the golden age of the Impressionists. Curved bodice with darts, angled sleeves and long basques accentuating a princess line. Chestnut silk moire lining on the officer collar and cuffs with large buttons. Front fastening with 12 chased steel buttons (one button missing). The matching skirt is fitted with large pleats at the waist, unfolding at the back thanks to a petticoat with an integrated turn in brown woolen cheesecloth (unfortunately very moth-eaten). Very slight marks on the silk faille and moire, but no holes or soiling. Good condition of colour and conservation. Dimensions: Equivalent to size 36 France. Bodice: shoulders 39 cm, chest 85 cm, waist 65 cm, sleeves 59 cm. Skirt: waist 65 cm, height 110 cm, skirt length 367 cm.
