About the Item

A nod to the silhouette of Christian Dior's New Look, this incredible velvet skirt set was made in 1947. It was made by designer Lorraine Budny for the brand Sportwhirl, which was founded in 1945 as a "separates house," specializing in pieces a woman could wear both separately and as a set— quite a novelty at the time, as store-bought dresses at all were not all that readily available. It's made of black velvet with felt rose appliqué and beaded embroidery— it actually presents like a dress, but is really two pieces, and each could absolutely be mixed and worn separately (as was the original design concept). The look is so romantic and reminds me of Old Hollywood film stars (with a dash of Snow White). The Vintage 14k Gold Spinel Heart Hoop Earrings pictured are also available. Measurements: Best fit for a modern size X-Small and Small. NOTE: There are princess seams in the top that could very easily be let out to fit up to a size Medium, no sewing required. Top: Chest: 35" Waist: 25" (see above note, could easily be let out to accomodate a larger size) Length: about 20" from shoulder to hem Skirt: Waist: 29" w a little extra give (Could also be worn lower than natural waist; worn with the top, it works well, because the top comes to the hips. Could also be easily taken in or let out) Length: 33" (Could be hemmed easily as none of the decorative elements are at the hem) Great vintage condition. There is some minor wear to the embroidery but it presents beautifully when worn. With any questions about the specific condition or size, please send a message for additional photos or measurements, as all sales are final. *IF YOU REQUIRE EXPRESS SHIPPING (domestic or international), please contact me for my best quote! @VERYBREEZY — Follow along on Instagram for exclusive access to new vintage arrivals
