About the Item

Rendered in the most sumptuous raw silk with a pattern of rose buds in shades of pink with bold green stems, accented by delicate pleated details and velvet finishings, this original 1950's dress and jacket set is just the piece to add to your seasonal wardrobe. The rounded notched neckline of the dress is accented by a pleated border along the front of the décolletage. The elegant shoulder line, sets off the short length sleeves. The fitted bodice, boasts tailored darts beneath the bust-line from which gathered pleats radiate upwards along the bust. The cinched in waistline, draws the eye to the simple skirt-line which is accented by single box pleats that radiate from either side of the front of the waist-seam. The dress is finished with a kick pleat along the centre back of the skirt. The matching jacket, is accented by an elegant V shaped neckline, which is sett off by by gathered pleats that contour the nape and décolletage. The simple shoulder line, sets off the short length sleeves, which boast turned up cuffs, with detailed external splits along each side. The fitted cut of the jacket, is accented by tailored seams, which draw the eye to the central pink pearlescent button fastenings. The cinched in waistline is accented by mock front pockets, which boast pleated edges and are finished with pink velvet bows. This dress and jacket set are not lined. Very gentle and small scattered age marks along the left hand side cuff of the jacket. These minor details are in no way apparent the set is being worn and only noticeable upon close inspection. This enchanting 1990s printed silk 2 piece set is comprised of a simple shift dress and bolero to be worn as either as an ensemble or separates. The aesthetic is playful, summery and feminine and presents easily as formal or informal attire. The soft ivory silk is slightly embossed with an irregular texture atop a vibrant rose print design in sugar pink, canary yellow, sapphire blue and emerald green. The dress is sleeveless and broad straps are gathered at the shoulders. The full circle skirt is gathered into tight uniform pleats below the waist and flares generously to the calf. The hem is fluted in yellow satin to match the pretty satin rosette embellishments that feature on the waistband and atop of each shoulder. The bodice is lined in ivory silk. The jacket has three quarter length sleeves which are gathered at the shoulder and the cuff to create an understated fairytale puff. The wide cuffs are embellished with satin rosettes to complement those on the dress, and the seams are fluted in matching yellow ribbon. This piece has a collarless round neck and falls into a central button stand which curves at the hem and hosts 4 x yellow lucite buttons. Tailoring below the bust brings the jacket neatly in at the waist when fastened, and a pretty peplum flares out over the hips. The peplum detail becomes more exaggerated at the reverse, where it is gathered into pleats to mirror the skirt. In pristine vintage condition, this charming set would best suit a US size 4, UK size 8 or smaller. Unlabelled couture...
