About the Item

1960's GEOFFREY BEENE Satin & jersey evening gown dress. This stunning evening dress was designed by Geoffrey Beene during the 1960's in New York, and was originally purchased at the Millie D. Oppenheimer boutique in Chicago, once located at the former Ambassador West Hotel at the time. The top, empire bodice is made of a very dark, midnight blue wool, stretch jersey knit. Signature, Beene curved, empire waist join seam shape. The bottom skirt of the dress has a dramatic, flared silhouette, and is made of pearlescent, ivory-color, duchess, silk satin. Concealed, on-seam, side pockets at the waist level. The underside of the skirt is lined in organza to give the skirt body, and to hold the dramatic shape. Matching, silk satin neck collar, and sleeve cuffs. Zippered detail at the undersides of the cuffs. Dual, layered zipper entry at the center-back. One zipper is attaches to the top knit bodice, and then tails down underneath the separate zipper entry of the satin skirt at the rear. *MEASUREMENTS* There is no size label attached. We estimate the dress to be a US size 6. The top wool jersey bodice is fitted, while the bottom satin skirt is flared, and loose fitting. The mannequin in the photos is a US size 6, and the dress fits perfectly. Please review the measurements below to ensure an accurate fit, keeping in mind that the top bodice is made of stretchy knit, so please allot 2"-3" for stretch tolerance for top measurements: Flat underarm to underarm: 15-1/2" Flat waist across: 14-1/2" Flat hips across: 24" Center-back length: 55-1/2" Rear shoulder to shoulder: 15" Sleeve length from top of armhole down to cuff edge: 23"
