About the Item

This black runway documented 1980s lame cocktail dress is by renowned French couturier Emanuel Ungaro. With a dramatic square neckline, the dress is sleeveless but with an exaggerated double layer of ruffles at the shoulders, ruched fabric wrapped around the bodice and a double layer ruffle trim around the base which gives volume and accentuates an hourglass figure. The back has a bustle design with additional ruffles cascading from the bottom of the zip at the back. Ungaro ready to wear was very well made and often, the atelier used the same fabrics as the haute couture range. This dress is masterfully and beautifully constructed in a type of jacquard fabric which has a metallic sheen - like lame. It is in superb vintage condition with no faults of any note and looks barely worn. It is sized a US 8 but vintage runs small and this is better suited to a UK 8-10 or US 4-6 in modern sizing. There is a strikingly similar dress from the F/W 1988-89 Emanuel Ungaro Runway Collection with similar shoulder detailing and in a matching lame fabric but in coral red. You can see the reference photo which gives you a great idea of how incredible this showstopping dress will look when worn! MEASUREMENTS BUST - 30 in. (76 cm) WAIST - 28 in. (71 cm) HIP - 38 in.
