About the Item

Circa 1855 France French Day dress with bodice and round crinoline skirt in changing and noising taffeta dating from the beginning of the Second French Empire. Boned bodice with integrated pleated capelet and large basques with taffeta knot on the back. Sleeves with two pagoda flounces decorated with two-tone tapered silk trimmings and grosgrain ribbons embroidered with blue zigzag with silk crests. The bodice closes in front on a modestie of lace (not included in this sale) by three tabs stapled in the visual way of an 18th century stomacher. Round skirt with large background adorned with three large notched ruffles and an ecru tarlatan petticoat. Bodice lining in brown cotton. Superb sewing finishes including the inside of the frills of the sleeves in beige taffeta and embossed and pleated silk ribbons. Provenance Family (wife) of Jules Gérard, born in Pignan (France) (1817-1864). Very Good condition of color and conservation. The white engageantes does not belong to this sale.
