About the Item

Though his work has only recently begun to be appreciated, Lebanese designer Jacques Cassia was a familiar face among the jet-setting haute monde in the 1960s and 70s. This dress from the early 1960s is an extremely rare example of his early work, which paid homage to Dior's "corolle" designs; sculptural, refined and elegant it is a work of fashion art. Sleeveless scoop neck cocktail dress with deeply pleated, cutaway-panel faux wrap skirt lined in heavyweight pellon for stiff, “stand-away” silhouette. Looped self bow at left hip and stiff self belt with rear hook at loop closure. Rear zipper closure with top hook and loop; bodice lined in acetate. Fully hand-finished. fabric: silk satin brocade, acetate, heavyweight pellon noteworthy: dry clean only alterations: secured rear skirt seam and waist bow condition: very good with one shadow of a spot near right breast (see photo) measurements: neckline opening: 12 ½” across shoulders: 15 ½” from outer strap edge to edge bust: 37” waist: 26” bodice length: 15” from shoulder hips: free skirt length: 26” total length: 41” from shoulder; 34” from underarm sweep: 62” hem: 3” belt: tapered from 1” - 2 ½” W x 30” L label: Jacques Cassia Haute Couture (Beyrouth); “Dynasty (HK)” brand fabric selvedge size: no size tag present; comparable to modern size small
