Junya Watanabe evening dress composed of crushed velvet in deep purple from the Fall-Winter 1997 collection. The garment is engineered with flatlock seams and geometric panel construction, including shaped waist insets and diagonally set side panels to contour the form. A distinctive design element is the integrated leg aperture at the side of the skirt, which functions as a structured cut-out, creating a deliberate asymmetrical high slit effect when worn. The body is cut with a crew neckline and long fitted sleeves, and the hem extends to ankle length. Fastened at the left side seam with a concealed zip closure. The use of crushed velvet, a synthetic blend with directional pile, enhances surface variation and visual texture, contributing to the designer’s deconstructionist methodology and his exploration of form and body through technical patternmaking.
