Mainbocher Lace Evening Dress & Cape

About the Item
He returned to America in 1940 and set up his business next door to Tiffany in New York. This dress is from the early years of his return to America.
Delicate black lace is finely pleated for the dress and matching cape. The dress has satin straps and a satin band at the bodice trimmed with a matching black satin rose. The bodice is finely pleated and accented with a balck satin cummerbund over a long lace skirt. There is a metal zipper at the left side and the dress is fully lined in black silk.
The matching cape has a wide black satin band above the sheer pleated lace. There are two narrow lace ties to keep the capel in place. Both the dress and cape are in excellent condition, with a very minor bit of fraying on one strap.
