About the Item

Pauline Trigère was a prominent figure in putting American designers on the map. Like many of the acclaimed French couturiers, she was an expert at tailoring and had an eye for interesting volumes. However true-to-form of the American aesthetic, Trigère designs are known for their relative simplicity and elegance through ease. From the late 1960s, this magnificent dress is a fine example of why Trigère’s designs were so beloved in Hollywood during that period. Done in a woven cotton featuring an abstract floral print in white, chartreuse, pink, lavender, and ochre on a navy ground, this dress is a wearable work of art. The bodice begins with a high round collar and has incredible sheer kimono angel sleeves which are nearly as long as the dress itself. The sleeves open at a slit on the inside of the upper arm and bring a welcome ethereal drama that allows this dress to be feminine and chic at once. The dress closes with twelve clear rhinestone buttons set in beautiful bound buttonholes along the left front placket, reaching from the collar to about half way down the skirt, giving it a more formal feel. The floral print showcases a central column of vines bordered by flowers along the front of the dress, and a central column of flowers bordered by vines at the back of the dress, giving the eye something new to appreciate at each angle. Size estimate: Medium Measurements: Shoulders: 14.5 inches Bust: 38 inches Waist: 32 inches Hips: 38 inches Length: 50 inches Beautifully tailored throughout, this dress has a simple columnar silhouette and falls to midi length several inches below the knee, allowing the floral print and angel sleeves to take center stage. An excellent addition to the discerning fashion lover’s wardrobe, this glamorous midi dress is the perfect choice for a gala or special occasion. This Pauline Trigère dress is lined except for the sleeves and has rhinestone button closures down the front placket. In excellent condition, this vintage dress is over 50 years old and has been professionally eco dry cleaned and pressed. High-quality vintage pieces like this are yours to live in and love while increasing in value every year. It’s never too soon to start collecting them, as an investment in your wardrobe—and in yourself.

Done in a silky nylon jersey, the dress features an eclectic print of alternating stripes of white cut-out starbursts and marmalade orange and yellow starbursts on a black ground. This sleeveless dress comes with an attached capelet overlay piece that may be pulled back and worn over the shoulders, revealing another pattern of white starbursts...

1950s Hattie Carnegie Silk Floral Print Watercolor Nipped Waist Dress
By Hattie Carnegie
Located in Boca Raton, FL
From the early 1950s comes this heavenly silk dress by Hattie Carnegie. Its nipped-waist silhouette is the perfect canvas for the gorgeous watercolor print that unfolds upon it: a blanket of pretty peonies in shades of pink, gray, white, lavender and, of course, Carnegie blue. “My clothes are built to show off the woman who wears them,” the American designer once said. “I like them to be simple—complicated and simple—to move well, to move with the times and a little ahead of them.” Still stunning today, this vintage treasure is a reflection of her philosophy—and a ladylike option for so many occasions, from a springtime luncheon to a summertime wedding or garden party.
