About the Item

Absolutely gorgeous early 1950's sparkling ice-blue gown by the acclaimed costume designer Kiviette. Yetta Schinsky, professionally known as Kiviette, was a leading Broadway costume designer from the late 1910's until the late 1940's who created the costumes for at least 45 productions (including more than one featuring the legendary Fred and Adele Astaire). Stylish New York City women had their dressmakers copy Kiviette’s stage creations and apparently this was the main reason many of them attended the Broadway shows! In 1948, a gown she created for her final Broadway production, “Light up the Sky” was even produced for sale at Bergdorf Goodman. This ice-blue sheer net tulle and sparkling beaded gold lace ballgown is a sensational example of her genius. The detailed construction and meticulous attention to detail are comparable to what you will find in modern day haute couture. As shown, from the skillful interior boning corset bustier to the dramatic voluminous skirting, you can definitely see the Christian Dior 'New Look' French influence of the time. The bodice has an elegant sweetheart strapless with optional neck sash. So Grace Kelly! I love the nipped waist design which is so figure flattering. Yards and yards of heavenly tulle cascading to the floor really finishes this masterpiece off with a perfect Old Hollywood vibe. This will be the gown you reach for anytime you want to look and feel like a starlet. This would make a beautiful red carpet or bridal moment.
