About the Item

This vintage 1950s red lace fit and flare dress is so romantic— it reminds me of something Audrey Hepburn would have worn in the 1950s! It is such a chic option for a holiday party dress, but would really fit a range of occasions. The construction of this dress is gorgeous, with a fitted basque-waist bodice creating an hourglass silhouette. The pleating at the chest is so well-done and very flattering. Multiple panels make the skirt a true "circle skirt" shape, with a horsehair hem creating that iconic sweep and movement. Velvet details at the foldover collar add such a nice, rich contrast to the lace. The off-the-shoulder neckline is so elegant and flattering— in this 1950s, this exaggerated bateau neckline was referred to as a "Sabrina" neckline, named for the neckline made famous by Audrey Hepburn in 1954's Sabrina. Edith Head won an Academy Award for the movie's costume design in 1955. Measurements: Shown clipped on a size X-Small to simulate the proper fit, but this will best fit a size Small or possibly Medium; please refer to below measurements to be sure. It could easily be altered as well. Chest: up to about 38" with gathering (will work on smaller chest as well as the pleats will lay flat) Waist: 27" laid flat, up to 28.5" pulled taut Hips are open Length: about 45" from shoulder to hem Great vintage condition, with minor wear commensurate with age, including some very minor scuffing/discoloration to skirt's lining which is not noticeable when worn, and the dress presents beautifully. With any questions about the specific condition or size, please send a message for additional photos or measurements, as all sales are final. *IF YOU REQUIRE EXPRESS SHIPPING (domestic or international), please contact me for my best quote! Vintage 1940s Velvet Two-Piece Dress with Rose Appliqué
Located in New York, NY
A nod to the silhouette of Christian Dior's New Look, this incredible velvet skirt set was made in 1947. It was made by designer Lorraine Budny for the brand Sportwhirl, which was founded in 1945 as a "separates house," specializing in pieces a woman could wear both separately and as a set— quite a novelty at the time, as store-bought dresses at all were not all that readily available. It's made of black velvet with felt rose appliqué and beaded embroidery— it actually presents like a dress, but is really two pieces, and each could absolutely be mixed and worn separately (as was the original design concept). The look is so romantic and reminds me of Old Hollywood film stars (with a dash of Snow White). The Vintage 14k Gold Spinel Heart...

1950s Red Silk Off-The-Shoulder Dress
Located in London, GB
This colour-block red silk cocktail dress was manufactured in America in the mid-1950s. The off-the-shoulder tailoring adds a playfully sensuous detail, whilst the cap-sleeves, cinched waist and pleated full skirt are trademarks of the era. The taffeta crimson silk has a lovely thick texture and supports the structured style of the dress. The flamboyant bow and collared neckline give way to ruched fabric at the waist. Lined in silk organza and closes with a hidden central zip to the rear. Although unlabelled, the dress is excellent quality and probably made for a high-end US department store. Photographed and modelled without under skirts...
