About the Item

A gorgeous and truly iconic Zandra Rhodes designer hand-painted silk chiffon dress dating back to her 1985 spring/summer 'India Revisited' collection. As shown, Princess Diana loved wearing Zandra Rhodes! This garment's pale-pink sister was famously worn by Princess Diana to the 1986 State Banquet in Kyoto, Japan. The dress was purchased back by Historic Royal Palaces at Kensington Palace and is said to be one of Diana's most glamorous looks. Rhodes was one of the British designers who put London at the forefront of the international fashion scene in the 1970's and 1980's. Her designs are considered creative statements, dramatic but graceful, bold but feminine. Zandra is renowned for her use of color, and this piece really lets her brilliance shine through. This rare dress is fashioned from beaded and hand painted ice-blue semi sheer lined silk chiffon of the highest quality. I adore the 'button and bows' novelty motif! Pearl beads and sparkling rhinestones give the dress so much depth and texture. The front illusion panel with 3/4-length sleeves frames the bodice beautifully. The wide ribbed satin sash nipped waist is so figure flattering. The chic gathered hip design with zig-zag hemline reads so modern. We added many pictures so you could see how much detail was put into this garment. Rhodes' exotic originality makes her work among the most copied in the fashion world today.
