About the Item
Circa 1815-1825
France
Elegant or Dandy waistcoat in embroidered brown silk satin dating from the early Restoration period. High-waisted cut, shawl collar and two pockets, six buttons matched covered, fully piped in unbleached silk. Skilful polychrome silk and gold thread embroidery in chain stitch and throw stitch. Stylized floral design in the neo-Gothic style typical of the period. The back in brown silk twill is original with its tabs, but was later widened at the sides. Cream linen lining (stains and halos on the lining). Note a very slight depigmentation of the brown satin, not very visible, and small halos under the armpits. The silk is stable and solid, with no major flaws. Good overall structural condition. For wearing or collecting.
Dimensions: Equivalent to men's size 48-50. Height 47 cm, shoulders 46 cm, chest 105 cm, waist 100 cm.
