About the Item

Circa 1890/1900 Paris Visit or exit of Ball of the famous dressmaker Jacques Doucet who had as assistant Paul Poiret and Madeleine Vionnet. Changing navy, green and purple taffeta. Black velvet laces forming arabesques and spirals. Wide batwing sleeves and lining in fuchsia pink silk crepe embellished with older lace. Large pleat work in the back finished with long fringes of plush velvet. Front fastening with hooks concealed beneath two black ribbon rosettes. Black label, white graphics. Please note that the pink lining is slightly torn at the level of the inner label, the only flaw to be noted. Otherwise good colour and condition. Size 36 France equivalent. Front height 50 cm, back height 56 cm, shoulders 40 cm, chest 87-90 cm, sleeves 53 cm, waist 69 cm, sleeve length 110 cm. Competing with the Maison Worth, Jacques Doucet dressed the aristocracy and elegant ladies of the Parisian art world. Jacques Doucet was an art lover and collector whose collection was dispersed in Paris in the 2000s. The Fondation Angladon in Avignon now holds his couturier's archives. A must in the history of French Haute Couture!

Circa 1932 Paris Rare evening coat jacket in black silk taffeta with a waxed effect from the Agnès-Drecoll houses, which merged in 1931. A clever cut with yokes on the bias and puffed sleeves that are the height of haute couture technology. Elegant side surplices emphasise the waist and the skirted effect of the bottom of this jacket.
