Maria Monaci Gallenga 1920's Black Velvet Jacket

About the Item

Maria Monaci Gallenga 1920's gauffered black silk velvet evening jacket. Stenciled with a Medieval foliate motif and Renaissance palmettes in signature silver and gold leaf. Wrap style with velvet collar and Chinese inspired frog velvet buttons. Unlined. Good Condition L 27.50" Waist 36" Hip 42" Sleeve 21.50" Hem 44.75" Gallengas signature metallic stenciling never tarnished or flaked because it was applied with a special method devised by her husband, a professor at the University of Rome. With detailed Gothic and Medieval motifs, she would use up to nine tones of gold and silver in these motifs.
