About the Item

Rendered in the most timeless shade of navy blue rayon, and set off by cream and navy blue polkadot silk accents, this original vintage 1940's set, comprised of a silk skirt and jacket, is the perfect ensemble for your tailored wardrobe. The neckline of the jacket is framed by a navy blue and cream silk Peter Pan collar. The elegant shoulder line, is accented by internal shoulder pads, which set off the 3/4 length sleeves, edged with polkadot silk turned up cuffs. The fitted cut, is set off by the central double breasted feature, which is accented by large pearlescent buttons and tailored Princess seams, which frame the buttons along each side. The longline of the jacket, draws the eye to the cinched in waistline, as it sits perfectly above the matching skirt. The matching skirt, sits perfectly beneath the jacket and is accented by a fitted waistband. The fitted panel along the hipline, is accented by box pleats, which drape along the length of the skirt, completing this set in an iconic and timeless silhouette. Label: None Measurements of the Jacket Shoulder to Shoulder: 14 inches Armpit to Armpit: up to 36 inches Shoulder to Hem : 24.5 inches Waist: up to 27 inches Shoulder to end of sleeve: 18.5 inches Fastenings: two internal press studs along the neckline, and 6 buttons along the front left hand side. Measurements Of The Skirt Waist: up to 26 inches Waist to Hem: 28.5 inches Hips: up to 34 inches Fastenings: 2 press studs, a hook and eye and a 7 inch metal zip. Size: UK 8 US 4 Condition: Jacket: This jacket is in near perfect condition. Very gentle wear to the rayon along either side of the armpits. A small darn along the left hand side armpit. Gentle yellowing to the internal silk collar along the nape, this is along the inside part of the collar. Very gentle colour variation along the back of the jacket between the shoulder blades, this is a natural process for rayon over time and is only apparent under very close inspection. The Skirt: The skirt is in perfection vintage condition. These minor details are not apparent when the suit is being worn. Please refer to the photographs, as they form part of the condition report. This early 1990s Christian Dior navy and white polka-dot three piece suit is comprised of a skirt, jacket and sleeveless top. The ensemble would have been designed by Gianfranco Ferre during his eight year tenure as Creative Director of the House. The jacket is pristinely tailored from a smooth navy wool and lined with a playful white-on-navy polka-dot silk. It has a single-breasted cut which fastens with five oval gold-tone buttons engraved with the “CD” logo. The silhouette is elegant, showcasing a slight nipped-in waist and elongated length with three flap pockets to the front. The sleeves are split and trimmed internally with ribbed white ribbed cotton, as are the inside of the lapels. The skirt is cut to a knee-length pencil silhouette. It is lined in coordinating polka-dot silk and fastens at the back with a hook-and-eye clasp and hidden tonal zip. The inside of the waistband is lined in ribbed white cotton. The final piece in this ensemble is a sleeveless blouse in navy and white polka-dot silk - to match the lining of the jacket and skirt. The top has a relaxed, straight shape and fastens at the back of the neck with a hidden tonal zip and hook-and-eye clasp. The label reads “Christian Dior Boutique Paris” and is numbered.
