About the Item

By fall 2004’s “Victim of the Crime” collection, it had become clear that Hedi Slimane’s preoccupation with Berlin and its club scene had begun to wane. Gone was the severity of the preceding collections, “Luster” and “Strip,” and in its place was a budding love affair with indie rock. One part glam, one part mod, and one part grunge, Slimane’s runway was rife with sneakers and stripes and pops of color. This shift was paramount for Slimane’s legacy and Dior Homme’s status as a menswear powerhouse, as the connection between the designer and the indie rock scene became inexorable over the following years, with the lines gradually blurring as to who was influencing whom. Slimane is the rare modern designer who values the concept of hand-made, labor-intensive pieces within his collections, and every season he features a piece or two which harkens back to his couture roots. This sweater, which appeared on the runway, is a sterling example of such. It borrows one of the season’s recurring visuals — the all-seeing eye — and constructs it out of hand-sewn beads and sequins. The piece also features thumbholes on the cuffs with elongated sleeves.
