About Amar Studio

Born in Rabat and raised in France from an early age, Jonathan Amar is one of the first designers to export artisanal Moroccan know-how abroad in the 1980's and has over 170 public and private projects signed to his name.

He is behind the New Age and Ethno-Chic Baroque movements or the art of blending the world's cultures*, creating places where exceptional decoration is an essential element. Indeed, he has the talent of merging various elements - even disparate - and integrating them into a new aesthetic set. This ability allows him to undertake all types of projects, appropriate various volumes and he quickly develops a flair for lighting arrangements, giving each of his projects a strong identity.

In 1985, at the age of 30, Hubert Boukobza entrusts him with the artistic direction of ”Les Bains Douches". It is a true institution of Parisian nights; a meeting place for international society and art, and one of the top ten most famous establishments in the world. During a typical night at les Bains you may cross David Bowie, Jack Nicholson, Mick Jagger, Iggy Pop or Madonna.

In 1988 the general public really discovers J.AMAR when he signs the renovation of the pool “Deligny”, and in 1990 the famous "Palace”.

In 1999, he creates the "Comptoir Darna" in Marrakech, The restaurant/club quickly becomes an institution in the ocher city.

In 2000, he is behind the "Tanjia" of David Guetta. He collaborates with Mourad Mazouz on Momo’s restaurant in London and Sketch where he was one of the early investors. In 2001, the Parisian "Nobu" reflects the artist’s heavy Asian influences who now focuses on clean lines and sober tones. He creates an exceptional place for the greatest Japanese chef Nobu Matsuhisa and his partner Robert de Niro. The same year, and in the same movement, he develops the "Tse", an exclusive Chinese restaurant located in the 16th district of Paris.

In 2017 Amar Studio becomes Jonathan Amar Studio through which he focuses as a design studio and lighting consultant. In addition to many private projects between London and Hong Kong, He puts his daughter Talissa Amar in charge of the first 20th century furniture gallery in Morocco, Spirit Gallery. He creates the first collection of handcrafted wireless lamps and connected tables, Flow designed to reimagine the way lighting is arranged in restaurants and hotels. He is the first in Morocco to mix high tech LED and wireless technologies with craftsmanship.
